Kansas Regents Recommended Curriculum
You must meet one of the following requirements to qualify for admission to any of the six Kansas Regents Universities (Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, Kansas State University, Pittsburg State University, The University of Kansas, Wichita State University):
Achieve an ACT composite score of 21 or above; or
Rank in the top one-third of your high school's graduating class; or
Complete the Qualified Admission curriculum with at least a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.
English - 4 units required - You must take at least one unit of English for each year of high school. Although you are encouraged to take courses in addition to the English requirement, these coursescannot fill any part of the English requirement.
Natural Science - 3 units required - You must take three units chosen from the following courses:
Biology
Advanced Biology (2nd year Biology)
Earth / Space Science
Chemistry *
Physics *
* At least one unit must be in chemistry or physics.
Students are encouraged to take one additional unit of science chosen from the courses listed above.
Math - 3 units required at or above Algebra I
If you completed any of the required math courses in middle school, it cannot count toward the Qualified Admissions math requirement; but it does cound for State Scholarsh Curriculum. Completion of both Applied Mathematics I and II can be substituted for Algebra I only. You are strongly encouraged to take a mathematics course every year of high school.
Social Sciences - 3 units required - You must complete the following:
One unit of U.S. History
One-half unit of U.S. Government
One unit selected from:
Psychology
Economics
Current social issues
Sociology
Minimum of one-half unit selected from:
World History
World Geography
International Relations
Computer Technology - 1 unit required - You are required to have one unit of computer technology.
Foreign Language - no units required
Regents Scholarship Consideration
To be eligible for Regents Scholarship consideration, you must complete the following:
English - No additional units required
Natural Science - Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
Math - 1 additional unit - In addition to Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry, you are required to complete at least one unit of advanced mathematics selected from:
Analytic Geometry
Trigonometry
Advanced Algebra
Probability and Statistics
Functions
Calculus
Social Sciences - No additional units required
Computer Technology - No additional units required
Foreign Language - 2 units required - you must complete two high school units in one foreign language
