[Art I] [Art II] [Art III] [Crafts]
Grade levels 9, 10, 11, 12. No Prerequisites. An introduction to two-dimensional work which will include basic design theory, acrylic and water color painting, perspective drawing, and color theory. Three-dimensional work will involve clay and its techniques, and wood or wire sculpture. Some crafts exploration will be covered. These could include flass etching, batik, and wood burning. The emphasis in the course is on problem solving and thinking through procedures.
Grade levels 10, 11, 12. Prerequisite: Art I. Art II assignments will
require theories and techniques covered in Art I. Projects will be more
complex and involve combining techniques and media. Students will be required
to keep their work and develop a portfolio. Studio drawing and painting will
be introduced at this level. Students will explore career possibilities. Also
a higher level of problem solving will be introduced with creative answers
being the goal.
Grade levels 11, 12. Prerequisite: Art II. Students will develop their own
style using the techniques and theories learned in Art I and Art II. A
sketchbook will be required to record drawings. Only original work will be
accepted. Students will be required to submit a piece of their artwork to an
art competition or art show. Students should explore the possibility of
combined media. Emphasis is on the students setting goals and achieving them
in the allotted time. Direction in a possible art career is reviewed.
Grade level 12. Prerequisite: Art I. Exploration of all types of crafts will be covered. Some examples are wood burning, weaving, needlecraft, leather, glass etching, copper punch, macramé, etc. Only seniors may take crafts and art during the same school year. Students are responsible for their projects’ costs and materials. Some equipment and materials will be available in the classroom. There is an emphasis on a practical application of craft knowledge in building a home-based business. Students will work on a contract basis. The choice of project is the students as well as the responsibility of completing the projects on time. The students will also be responsible for selecting a career in the art field that is of interest to them. They will explore that field and possibly complete a job shadowing on their selection.
