Grade level 9. Full year course. No prerequisites. Required for graduation. This course is designed to introduce the basic concepts of science to the student with an emphasis on the physical sciences. The work done in this course will prepare the student for further study in the sciences. The student will gain knowledge in the areas of physics and chemistry, and will learn basic problem solving skills. Since math is used extensively, the student should have good basic math skills.
Grade levels 11, 12. Full year course. Prerequisites: Algebra I & II, Geometry/Trigonometry, and one lab science. Physics presents many of the basic concepts and laws that govern the world around us. First semester deals with mechanics (objects in motion). Second semester covers the areas of heat, wave phenomena, electromagnetism, and atomic theories. An understanding of measurements and mathematics is essential. This course is designed for the college-bound student.
