Advanced Biology

Grade levels 11, 12. Full year course. Prerequisites: B average in Biology. This course is designed for college-bound students interested in biology, and a possible career in the health field or environmental science field. This course is designed to build upon the principles learned in Biology and cover selected topics in depth. The first quarter covers ecology and environmental problems related to living organisms. The remaining three quarters cover anatomy and physiology and current issues in the health field.

Biology

Grade level 10. Full year course. Required for graduation. Biology is the study of life. This course is designed for all students who have a background of either life science or general science. Topics to be studied include the study of cells, living processes, genetics, microorganisms, plants, and animals (invertebrates and vertebrates). Students will be required to do some dissection of invertebrates and vertebrates as well as use a microscope to observe microscopic organisms.

Chemistry

Grade levels 11, 12. Full year course. Prerequisites: Algebra I, Geometry. The study of materials, their composition, and the changes they undergo. This course is designed for college-bound students who are interested in science. Topics include the organization of chemistry, chemical formulas and equations, phases of matter, solutions, chemical reactions, carbon and its compounds, transition metals, and nuclear chemistry.

General Science

Grade level 11,12. Full year course. Prerequisites: Physical Science, Biology. this course is designed to review the basic concepts of science through application of all science fields. Topics include Earth Science, Space Science, Physics, and Chemistry. some basic math skills are needed.

Physical Science

Grade level 9. Full year course. No prerequisites. Required for graduation. This course is designed to introduce the basic concepts of science to the student with an emphasis on the physical sciences. The work done in this course will prepare the student for further study in the sciences. The student will gain knowledge in the areas of physics and chemistry, and will learn basic problem solving skills. Since math is used extensively, the student should have good basic math skills.

Physics

Grade levels 11, 12. Full year course. Prerequisites. Algebra I & II, Geometry/Trigonometry, and one lab science. Physics presents many of the basic concepts and laws that govern the world around us. First semester deals with mechanics (objects in motion). Second semester covers the areas of heat, wave phenomena, electromagnetism, and atomic theories. An understanding of measurements and mathematics is essential. This course is designed for the college-bound student.
