American Government
Grade level 12. Full year course. Required for graduation. No
prerequisites. This course is about government and politics in the United
States. Students will study how each branch of government works and its
historical basis. Students will learn their responsibilities as citizens of
the U.S. Students will study the interaction between the national government
and citizens, the economy, the state government and local government. Students
will study the Constitution of the United States as a living document that is
the basis for our democratic form of government.
American History
Grade level 11. Full year course. Required for graduation. History
of the U.S. from its discovery to the present. Emphasis is placed upon the
people, places, economy, and political events of our country. An attempt is
made to show how these factors developed and influenced American life. It will
help the student learn from the past, thereby, helping him to form intelligent
opinions on the problems of today.
Current Events
Grade level 11. Semester course with Speech being the other semester
course. Required for graduation. No prerequisites. This class provides
a study of current issues in government and world affairs.
World History
Grade level 10. Full year course. Required for graduation. No
prerequisites. World History is a survey of the social, religious, cultural,
political, economic, and military history of the world from its beginning to
the present. We want to develop an appreciation and knowledge of the past
civilizations’ accomplishments and culture. By understanding the past, we
can relate it to the present.
General Psychology
Grade level 12. Semester course. College credit prerequisite: 2.75 GPA
and passing scores on the CCCC test or ACT score of 18+ in Reading. Provides a broad overview of
the theories and data associated with the scientific study of human behavior
as it applies to daily living. Scope of the course includes history,
biological bases of behavior, development, cognitive processes, individual
awareness, motivation, emotion, personal adjustment and social psychology.
Principles of Sociology
Grade level 12. Semester course. College credit prerequisite: 2.75 GPA and
passing scores on the CCCC test or ACT scores of 18+ in Reading. An introductory study to acquaint students
with the influence of human social behavior. Sociology studies the processes
and patterns of individual and group interaction by acquainting students with
the development, characteristics, and functioning of human groups, the
relationships between group influences on individual awareness, motivation,
emotion, personal adjustment and social psychology.
