Band
Grade levels 9, 10, 11, 12. Full year course. Prerequisites: past member of
middle school or high school band, or instructor’s permission. This class
is open to all students who play a wind or percussion instrument. Class
includes learning advanced music concepts as well as advanced performance
skills. This class performs at all home football and basketball games in
addition to concerts and festivals each year. All performances are mandatory
and are included in the grading scale.
Cardinalaires
Grade levels 9, 10, 11, 12. One credit hour per year.
Prerequisites: previous choral experience, audition, and approval of instructor. This select vocal ensemble
performs several times throughout the year. The performance schedule usually
includes: Fall Fest, an annual Christmas Concert, a spring tour concert,
contests, church day, impromptu requests for programs, and the Cardinal
Cabaret. Choreography is often required. Performances are mandatory and are
included in the grading scale. Members of the Cardinalaires are eligible to
participate in contests as soloists and as members of one additional
ensemble.
Chorus
Grade levels 9, 10, 11, 12. Full year course. No prerequisite. The CSHS Chorus is open to
all students who are would like to sing a variety of styles of music.
Opportunities to perform include: Fall Fest, Christmas Concert, All-League
Choir, League Contest, State Contest, and Spring Concert. Choir students may
also take a solo and/or ensemble to contest. All performances are mandatory and are included
in the grading scale.
Instrumental Exploration
Grade levels 9, 10, 11, 12. Full year course. No prerequisites. Students
will have the opportunity to independently study music. Students can work on
solos and have the opportunity to better develop their musical abilities
with their chosen instrument. It may also be an opportunity for a student to
work on a new instrument before joining an organized performance group.
